The Mad River Valley was created by the "Mad River" that winds its way through villages and farmlands.

The villages set along the river, Waitsfield, Warren, and Moretown, were chartered over 200 years ago in the time of the Revolutionary War. After World War II, the ski industry drew new residents, a diverse and cultured group retreating from the clutter of big city living. The Valley is not a manufactured tourist attraction. It's a truly unique community that at once keeps pace and preserves its roots.
